So as most of you know, I am ineligible for a kidney transplant when it gets to that point. You know, what with my body fighting and rejecting my own organs, what do you think the chances I’d have with someone elses? Exactly….
So this is not about me. Well in the most direct sense anyway. I do have some vested interest in the potential karmic outflow though.
I know many people have offered me one of their kidneys, and really it is about the most gratifying outpouring of support one has ever shown to me. And I wish I was able to thank them properly when they did. But it is just beyond my words to say thanks for offering my a component of your body. So while I am not naming names here, perhaps they will think about this seriously.
See one of my fellow Blip DJs, Pamala Ladypn, has a brother in serious need of a living kidney donor. Her campaign on her blog to help locate one has inspired me to get into the act. And just in case you don’t know, I am randyhate over on blip.
I’ll be completely honest, I have never met Pamala, nor her brother Kevin. That is fairly insignificant. Somewhere in the last two years I have grasped hold of the idea of just how powerfully important living life is. And this is such a change from who I was before and I now want to share this notion with others. We are all alive to enrich the lives of others on this earth. Some of us do it through the art we make. Some of us do it teaching others. Some of us do many other enriching things. Some of us can do it by sharing life with others.
I, thankfully, am a few years away from being hooked up to the dialysis machine. Kevin is not. And Pamala’s words make it succinctly clear why finding a donor now is so important: “Once dialysis begins – so too begins the ticking of his survival clock. While some people survive for years on dialysis – the facts are irrefutable – the majority of dialysis patients die by year five.”
If you are at all interested in helping in anyway please follow Pamala’s words:
